Telefónica exhibits its TeleTouch collaborative telepresence system at the Mobile World Congress

Telefónica is presenting at the Mobile World Congress 2012 the TeleTouch collaborative telepresence system, a videoconferencing system with which you can work together and that facilitates visual contact between the interlocutors.

Telefónica presents, within the framework of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), at the Barcelona Fair, its most innovative solutions in the mobility and telecommunications environment: interactive television, futuristic video calls, mobile home automation, new uses of the Internet of things (M2M), e-health, connected home, mobile solutions that integrate the personal and professional environment.

Among the projects at the Mobile World Congress, the TeleTouch project stands out. In a global world that demands increasingly real distance connections, collaborative telepresence solutions are needed, Hence, Telefónica also presents this collaborative telepresence project that makes it possible to talk and interact with another person through a screen, share a virtual desktop and work in parallel.

Teletouch represents a revolution that allows interesting collaborations in fields such as engineering, architecture or design. Its applicability can also be extended to the citizen service area by allowing work to be done simultaneously on the same screen, viewing the results in real time..

The demo shows a TV-like screen, but with the appearance of transparent glass, in which one of the interlocutors sees himself “reflected”, that can be found even thousands of kilometers away. Also, the other interlocutor appears on another identical screen. On these screens you can not only talk face to face, but also a virtual desktop is shared on which both people interact. For its operation you simply need an ADSL connection or you can even make collaborative video conferences using a USB modem with a 3G connection.. Any action used on a computer can be shared on this 'magic screen'.

HD video conferencing

Another of the videoconferencing projects present at the MWC is high definition videoconferencing (High Definition Video Conference, HDVC). This is a project in which the main European operators such as Telefónica participate., Deutsche Telekom, France-Telecom y Telecom-Italia, and providers like Ericsson, NSN o Polycom, with the aim of achieving HD video connections through IP networks.

Real-time HDVC experiences are exhibited at the Telefónica stand, with live videoconferences with Turin (Italia). There are also other demonstrations carried out in multi-video conference format with France, Germany, Pozuelo (Madrid) and Italy, that will allow the visitor to know the great potential of the system.
