The South Korean government has created a new program (‘Future Flagship Program’) which aims to develop technologies to produce flexible and transparent OLED displays of 60 inches of ultra high definition for the year 2017. The project will be led by LG Display, and the equipment manufacturer Avaco will also participate.

LG Display has been chosen by the South Korean government to lead a project, named ‘Future Flagship Program’, to develop transparent and flexible OLED displays. The multinational will direct a consortium together with the equipment manufacturer for the production of displays, Abacus, focused on developing proprietary technology whose star product will be a flexible OLED panel of 60 inches and ultra-high definition programmed for 2017.

The Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy is leading the program, and they believe that this technology can have a great impact on the Korean economy, also helping to widen the technological gap between Korea and China in the display sector. The Korean government has chosen several key technologies that will help it further develop this industry, and OLED screens are one of them.

LG Display and Avaco are already collaborating on flexible OLED equipment, and Avaco has been chosen to supply equipment to the South Korean multinational's next pilot production line for flexible OLEDs.
