Alcatel-Lucent strengthens the communications security of the new Albacete-Alicante AVE line
Alcatel-Lucent will be in charge of installing the fixed communication system on the future high-speed train line (AVE) from Albacete to Alicante. The system will be based on SDH and IP/MPLS technology and will serve to transmit information on traffic control, remote signaling, as well as for sending videos and data from the security device and information to travelers.
Alcatel-Lucent will help guarantee safety and efficiency when traveling on the new high-speed line between Albacete and Alicante, supplying the communications system for the next-generation signaling system that Alstom is installing through the Albali consortium. The new line of 167 kilometers, The first, which is being developed under a scheme that will connect both cities, is part of the important project to connect large cities in Spain through high-speed lines and will open new opportunities for companies and visitors to both cities..
For the Albacete-Alicante line project, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy a fixed communications system based on SDH and IP/MPLS technologies (Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching) which will ensure the secure delivery of information necessary for signaling and traffic control, for video surveillance and security services and for passenger information systems. The system will make communications between trains possible, stations and control centers to guarantee the safety of passengers and the efficiency of the new line that will be put into operation soon.
Enrique Muñoz, director of strategic industries for Spain and Portugal at Alcatel-Lucent, has indicated: “Alcatel-Lucent is one of the largest suppliers of communications systems used on high-speed railway lines in Spain and other parts of the world.. The development of new railway networks offers a sustainable alternative to other transport models and favors economic growth. The use of safer and more reliable communications becomes even more necessary as speeds increase in railway travel., Therefore, we are pleased to collaborate in the Adif project to ensure passenger safety on this new line.”.
The link between Albacete and Alicante is part of the project to develop high-speed lines in Spain using the European traffic management system (ERTMS), a standard for Europe that uses GSM technology applied to railway communications (GSM-R) for traffic control and command systems in order to improve interoperability between operational railway systems on the continent. As part of this project, Alcatel-Lucent has already supplied communications systems for other railway lines such as the one between Madrid and Valencia, in operation since December 2010.
Alcatel-Lucent technology in the deployment of the Albacete-Alicante line
Within the framework of this project signed with the consortium in charge of the project, Alcatel-Lucent will supply a complete fixed communications network based on SDH and IP/MPLS technology for the Albacete-Alicante line, including multiservice optical nodes 1660 SM, compact multiservice nodes 1662 SMC STM-4/16, service routers 7750 and OmniSwitch equipment 6850 y 6250. Alcatel-Lucent will also provide network management services and will be responsible for overall project management., installation and integration of systems.
Alcatel-Lucent's dynamic communications for railway environments
Alcatel-Lucent helps urban and intercity rail transport operators achieve connected travel, on time and safely. For any need, either deploy a new communications network or renew and improve the existing network, Alcatel-Lucent is the trusted partner for railway communications. With a complete catalog of solutions and services and more than 30 years of experience in transport systems integration, Alcatel-Lucent has proven design expertise, deployment, maintenance and operation of mission-critical networks that support operational systems such as railway signaling and control, train-ground communications and video monitoring, inter alia.
