Modular and energy efficient data centers tailored to the client
Verne Global has selected Colt's modular ftec technology to expand the capacity and efficiency of its data center in Iceland.
The promoter of energy-efficient data center campuses Verne Global has chosen modular ftec technology from Colt Technology Services, allowing you to increase power and cooling in the data center and add space on the fly, for the expansion of its critical facilities in the Icelandic city of Keflavik, that are 100% powered by two renewable energy sources.
Manufactured at Colt's facilities in the north of England, The ftec Data Center modules will be shipped to Iceland next May to be assembled on site and will be operational in the third quarter of the year. As Jeff Monroe points out, Verne Global CEO, “the cloud, Mobile and Big Data applications are making organizations look for new solutions to store their data. Our facilities in Iceland are attracting more and more interest due to their efficiency and we are faced with the need to increase our available capacity”.
Guy Ruddock, vice president of design and delivery at Colt, points out in this regard that “in the case of the Verne Global campus we have adapted our design to take advantage of the cold Icelandic air, for data center cooling, available all year round. Verne Global's data center is strategically located for its clients to benefit from Iceland's unique energy sources, specifically geothermal and hydroelectric. Colt's ftec Data Center technology is built (prefabricated) in a modular way, with steel frames and secure structure. Using properly sized standard components minimizes expense and makes this critical installation as efficient and safe as possible., and even the materials used can be recycled at the end of their useful life.
Colt ftec Data Centers are built with flexible technology, that redefines the construction and delivery of large data center rooms that adapt to the needs of the moment. This innovative design provides great efficiency in energy consumption, since the cooling is optimized in detail, reaching PUE levels 1,21.
Another advantage of this solution is the reduction of delivery time from the usual eighteen months it costs to build or expand a traditional data center to just four months.. The service is available for surfaces from 125 m2 with different design options, depending on use and level of redundancy (Tier) that is requested.
