WCMC Discovery Wall

WCMC Discovery WallThis installation, que fusiona la tecnología con la innovación, fue creada el pasado mes de enero por Hirsch & Mann y Squint/Opera to showcase the work being done at WCMC with a visual element that will catch people's attention.

As Hirsch explains & Mann, The Discovery Wall has been designed “to offer three different ways of engaging with the work of art. From across the street there is macro view, that is, you see a large-scale image in high resolution, from a closer position, micro, can be seen in all its detail, and those outside will see the contents in mezzo mode, displaying the titles of the research areas and groups of images between the LCD screens”.

WCMC Discovery WallContent is curated and scheduled using a content management system that is designed for use with the Discovery Wall. As new discoveries are made at the research center, content is updated. In addition to content layers, Curved lenses create a lenticular effect for each mini display allowing the way this digital artwork looks to change depending on the situation.

WCMC Discovery WallModular design

This piece of digital art has been custom made and designed to appear as if it is floating in front of the wall. Enclosed in a transparent acrylic structure, offers a robust support and allows the replacement of the modular 'mini screens' to be a simple process to carry out from the front. Sections of the screens can be easily moved and replaced.

Any pieces that become damaged can be repaired off-site to minimize any lasting impact on the artwork.. This structure consists of 2.800 LCD screens on a di-grid. Each screen is controlled independently and can display any color block, graphics, text, overlays and full-size images. Each LCD is capable of displaying 240 × 240 pixels. Each macro image offers a resolution of 16.800 pixels wide by 9.600 pixels high.

Technical data:

  • Number of screens and lenses: 2.800
  • Size: 4.670 mm X 2.722 mm
  • Resolution of LCD screens: 240 × 240 pixels
  • Maximum full screen resolution: 16.800 × 9.600 pixels
  • Power consumption: <1 Kw
