Animotion, the show where art and projection merge, return to edinburgh
Featuring the Edinburgh Fringe Festival motif 2015, the show where music merges, painting and video projection, Animation, returns to the scene. On this occasion the George Herriot School is the building chosen for this production carried out by The Projection Studio with Panasonic technology.
AniMotion is back on the scene, of the 26 al 29 of August, as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015. It's a show, fruit of the collaboration between the artist Maria Rud and Ross Ashton, of the company The Projection Studio, in which art merges, music, architecture and technology.
In January it was staged in the cathedral of St. Giles of Edinburgh and now it has returned to illuminate the George Herriot School (George Herriot’s School), to offer an experience where painting and video projection are the protagonists.
The power of painting created in real time and projected onto an architectural building accompanied by live music is a collaboration between projection artist Ross Ashton, virtuoso percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie and visual artist and painter Maria Rud.
The location of this magical outdoor experience is the courtyard of the George Herriot School. High-impact art is projected onto the side wall, of the 17th century chapel that becomes part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, famous for exhibiting new works, innovative and stimulating.
Ross has created a video mapping that is projected onto the side of the chapel, a detailed canvas, which includes all the architectural peculiarities and nuances, and where Maria Rud performs her paintings live.
The captured images are entered into a laptop computer equipped with VJs' Millumin software, which helps to ensure that Rud's works are seen in the greatest detail without losing color..
The contents are fed through two projectors Panasonic PT-DZ21K and are displayed on a surface of 25 meters wide by 18 high. Projectors have been supplied by Alastair Young of War Productions of Edinburgh, the cameras are from Ian White and Progressive Broadcast and the sound system from d&b sound has been provided Warehouse Sound.
The Panasonic PT-DZ21K projector offers up to 20.000 lumens of brightness and allows images and video to be displayed on surfaces ranging from 70 until 600 inches with a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixelated. Besides, Thanks to its geometric adjustment algorithm, it is possible to make projections on both regular and irregular surfaces.. An ideal team to carry out events like Animotion.
Rud initially experimented with a number of ideas and established that the shapes and colors worked best with the dynamics of the building.. In this way, has created eight improvised and different painted works for each show.
For this occasion, Dame Evelyn performs pieces from modern classics such as ‘Michi’ by Keiko Abe and ‘Prim’ by Askell Masson. The music, rhythmic style and the strokes of the paint find their own distinctive harmony while impacting the emotional state of the audience.
