Allen & Heath: new analog and ultra-compact mixers for its ZED series

High quality sound, compact and portable format, as well as interface functions (on ZEDi models), The manufacturer has added five new analog mixers to its popular ZED series, designed to respond to AV applications, live music and recording.

Incorporated into its well-known ZED series, Allen & Heath has developed five new compact format mixers, three of which are presented as mixer and interface hybrids. These models, available through your distributor in Spain Lexon Distribution (who is part of the group Audio-Technica) They have been designed with all the features and quality level for live music, recording or AV applications, in a compact and portable format.

ZED6 models, ZED6FX and ZEDi8 have two mono channels with independent XLR and TRS jack inputs and two stereo channels. For your part, ZEDi10 and ZEDi10FX models feature four mono channels and two stereo channels. Guitarists and bassists will also appreciate the presence of high-impedance guitar DI inputs on two of its mono channels., allowing guitars to be connected directly to the mixer, without the need for separate DI boxes.

ZEDi models combine a compact mixer with a USB 2 interface×2 (4×4 in the case of the two ZEDi10 models) with resolution of 24 bit, 96 kHz, allowing playback and recording to Mac or PC computers or an iOS device (using Camera Connection Kit), with great flexibility in addressing options.

ZEDi8 mixers, ZEDi10 and ZEDi10FX include popular Cubase LE software, that offers a user interface, powerful and easy to use, that provides software tools for audio recording, edition, MIDI sequencing and mixing. They also include the Cubasis LE app; a compact version of Steinberg's sequencer for iPad providing similar features to Cubasis, designed to offer fast and extremely easy handling, allowing recording, editing and mixing.

FX models incorporate a new internal FX system, exclusive design, which includes a multitude of FX modeling in which reverbs are combined, delays, benders, chorus and many more modulators, capable of creating a varied and dynamic palette of studio-quality effects. Regarding equalization, ZED6 models, ZED6FX and ZEDi8 feature a two-band MusicQ system, while ZEDi10 and ZEDi10FX have three equalization bands, also MusicQ type.

Added to this is the inclusion of a new preamplifier, created by analog guru Mike Griffin, developed from that included in the GS-R24 studio console and has become famous for its exceptionally low noise, its enormous dynamic headroom and the warm, deep sound characteristic of analog mixers created by Allen & Heath.

All ZED mixers have been designed and built to meet the demands set by Allen & Health so that their products are able to withstand the rigors of touring use. All channels are housed on individual printed circuit boards, mounted vertically, and all rotary controls are fixed to the front panel by means of a steel nut, in order to protect them against possible damage caused by impacts.
