Belgian electronic rock band, Soulwax, has embarked on a tour of Europe, taking with it the digital mixing system Allen & Heath dLive, that distributes Audio-Technica Iberia, by and ME personal monitoring team to manage the FOH, monitors and recording.
Soulwax band members sought to recreate a 20th century sound by incorporating several classic Trident Fleximix consoles on stage for pre-mixing..
The FOH Engineer, Hugo Scholten, I needed a system that could handle up to 128 input channels to mix this vintage sound with any of the individual mic/line channels for the final FOH mix.
In the same way, a system was necessary that would allow virtual sound checks and adding Waves plug-ins to the FOH.. Other elements were also necessary, such as a digital split for microphone preamplifiers., placed between the monitors and the FOH, and an integrated and independent system that would provide artists with a means of personal monitoring, practical and easy to handle.
Supplied by Ampco Flashlight Rental (company that has provided the production equipment for the stage, monitors and FOH) The SoulWax Tour dLive system consists of an S7000 control surface, a DM32 mixing rack for the FOH, with Waves and MADI, a virtual sound testing system and real-time processing equipment SoundGrid. Besides, An S5000 control desk has been added with a DM64 MixRack and two additional DX32 expansion racks with a split 128 inputs and recording capacity via MADI and Waves.
“In a mix that involves dozens of channels, including three drum kits, The enormous dynamic range and clarity that dLive offers is greatly appreciated. The flexible channel layout allows me to place all my audio subgroups in the center bank with the DCAs below. I also like to use the De-Esser to help dilute the reach of the triple drum kit on the vocal mic.. Networking options give me a lot of freedom as they allow me to, For example, use the Waves SoundGrid for bus processing and the MADI for routing splits”, comments the systems and FOH engineer, Hugo Scholten.
Besides, Each musician and technician is provided with their own ME-1 mini mixer, linked via ME-U hub, to manage your monitor mix.
"Shipment 40 auxiliary channels, as groups of separate tracks or submezclas, towards the ME-1 so that each musician can select their own In-Ear mix. Very early in the tour, "Musicians commented on the clarity and separation of their mixes.", comments the monitor engineer, Marc Mackie of Vulder
