Leap Motion wants to democratize augmented reality with Project North Star
The company has developed a prototype of a low-cost augmented reality viewer with an Open Source license, Equipped with two 3.5” mini LCD screens and hand tracking sensor.
High performance and a price below one hundred euros (one hundred dollars) This is what the viewer prototype developed by Leap Motion so that any user, thanks to the Open Source license, can explore the possibilities of interactions with this platform, denominada Project North Star, that just presented.
This prototype has two LCD screens for each eye (of 3,5 inches each and a viewing angle of 100º), with a resolution of 1,600×1.440p, at 120fps each, and hand movement tracking using a 180º sensor developed by Leap Motion
As David Holz points out, CTO of Leap Motion on the company website, “The North Star platform makes us forget about the limitations of current systems and focus on the experience, in hardware, the software and interface. The hardware journey to a perfect AR headset is not complete and will have to wait a while, but North Star offers us the vision that we have not had until now”.
