To facilitate obtaining information about offers, McDonald's Deutschland uses large format LCD screens from NEC Display Solutions. With a diagonal of 46 inches, These display supports replace the previously standard sheets of paper that had to be changed several times a day to display the menu.

Five screens are installed side by side in horizontal or vertical format. Only a few restaurants, generally smaller, change settings. A sixth screen, of 40 inches, placed to one side, shows price list and allergen information.

“Exhibitors play an important role in our new restaurant concept. We want to use them to optimally present our extensive menu”, explains Marcel Kolb, Director of innovation for McDonald's Deutschland restaurants.

The monitors are connected to form a continuous canvas that displays the menu with dynamic content, with animations and short product videos to attract more interest to the screen.

Restaurant screens throughout Germany are programmed centrally by a single service provider. Content adapts to the time of day, from breakfast to lunch menu, passing through the afternoon and evening specials. However, each restaurant also has the possibility of presenting tailored local offers.

The modular PCs that integrate the screens have Celeron processors from the Intel Skylake series, that have enough processing power to drive sophisticated animations and videos.

Quality was one of the main reasons why McDonald's Deutschland chose NEC displays.

“Many of our restaurants are open late into the night or even 24 hours of the day throughout the year”, dice Kolb. “Screens must be correspondingly reliable” McDonald's has used NEC displays for restaurants and individual projects for many years. “NEC was in the lead on price, quality and reliability, so we have decided to partner with them again this time”, comments Marcel Kolb, Restaurant Innovation Manager at McDonald’s Germany.
