In three pediatric operating rooms of the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital ultra-short throw projectors have been installed in Barcelona Christie Captivates children to watch their favorite drawings or series before falling asleep due to anesthesia. This is a pioneering initiative in Spain that makes the patient experience before surgery more pleasant..

The facility is part of the renovation of the pediatric surgical block of the hospital center, that has incorporated the most advanced technology for minimally invasive procedures.

The hospital trusted the company Semic to provide the technological infrastructure of the project and the integration of audiovisual equipment, which included projectors, matrices, monitors, Led screens, control systems, microphone and audio. Charmex has been the partner in charge of supplying AV solutions.

The new surgical block has been designed to humanize the passage of children through the operating rooms, facilitate surgery and make children's experience less traumatic. It has music and a lighting system that allows you to modify the light and adapt it to each surgical situation.. For example, the light is blue when a laparoscopy has to be done, but green to create a relaxing environment when the patient enters.

The Christie Captiva DHD410S project children's series and movies in operating rooms, what makes anesthetic induction, which is the most stressful moment of a surgical intervention, be a much more rewarding process for the child.

The differentiating aspect of the project is that the images are launched directly onto the glass walls of the operating rooms., without interfering elements, and producing a shocking effect, generating three meter wide projection canvases in the largest operating room, two meters in the middle and 1,5 meters in the smallest.

The main challenge of the AV installation was working in a space such as an operating room where only the use of medical grade screens is allowed. For this reason, Semic had to design a projection booth in each of the operating rooms in a false ceiling closed by a glass through which the light beam passes..

The Captiva DHD410S was the choice for its ultra-short throw lens 0,25:1 which allows it to be mounted a few centimeters from the walls on which it is projected, without the presence of shadows that obstruct the image and ideal for small environments. It also influenced how quiet the projector is. (32 dB in eco mode).

This model has 1DLP laser technology, offers 4100 lumens and resolution 1,920×1.080. Works at full capacity until 20.000 hours without needing to replace lamps and produces images from 80 a 100 inches diagonal. Highly reliable, 1DLP engine allows the projector to be used in intensive use applications, including mode 24/7, without interrupting its operation at any time.

Two Christie DWU630-GS projectors with lenses were also installed 1,52-2,89:1 in one of the hospital auditoriums, with capacity for 80 personas. This is a 1DLP laser technology device., 6750 Lúmentes ISO and Resolution Wuxga (1920 x 1200). Two more Christie Captiva DHD410S were also supplied for each training classroom at the hospital..

“We are delighted that our projectors are used for such a noble purpose as cheering up children before surgery.”. We want to congratulate the hospital for this initiative and thank our partners, Charmex y Semic, for having been able to masterfully integrate our technology in such a complex environment”.
