Extron Quantum Ultra powers two video walls in the ULA operations support center
The AV upgrade of this NASA aeronautical launch center, made by Xcite Audiovisual, It is based on this video wall processor, facilitating operator collaboration across multiple sites, among other advantages.
United Launch Alliance (ULA) is a provider of aeronautical launch services, considered the most experienced and reliable in the world, with more than a century of activity, with the contribution of more than 135 missions to orbit and providing Earth observation capabilities that allow global communications.
Your Denver Operations Support Center (ENOUGH), with nearly a hundred engineers who are experts in launches, offers video and telemetry capabilities. Lives, equipment and millions of dollars of payload depend on the ability to oversee all launch site activities for a successful operation.
To monitor these operations, ENOUGH utiliza dos videowalls, in configuration of 1×3, showing a wide variety of sources: from emissions from sensors and cameras located at different launch facilities, to calculations and data extracted from ULA computers and servers.
To transition this technology to high definition cameras, ULA hired Xcite Audiovisuals to upgrade video wall system. Among other requirements, the new facility had to facilitate launch team collaboration across multiple sites, as well as provide advanced on-time launch capabilities.
Besides, Downtime caused by the outage of the previous video wall system had to be kept to an absolute minimum, and the solution that ULA and Xcite chose to achieve this has been the Extron Quantum Ultra video wall processor.
Previously, ULA managers spent almost a year researching the most suitable video wall solution for this critical project in the market.. The parameters applicable to the DOSC update included security requirements, future-proof product life and technology.
After a thorough examination, design team selected Quantum Ultra video wall processor 610 by Extron, as it provided the best combination of presentation capabilities, proven reliability, possibility of updating and acquisition cost.
Another deciding factor was that Quantum Ultra is JITC certified for use in secure government environments., in addition to offering a good balance between functionality and direct profitability.
“The two video walls display critical, high-quality content to a team of engineers who need maximum accuracy to make important decisions.”. Extron has amply demonstrated the durability of its products. We are confident that the system will work during the process and will support us on launch day.”, in señalada Ashley P. Walker, ULA Chief Telemetry Engineer.
Quantum Ultra allows DOSC engineers to simultaneously display native resolutions or upscaled video streams, along with data for launch monitoring and analysis.
All sources are available for window systems on one or both video walls. The source signals are first connected to a 64-channel switching matrix.×64 XTP II CrossPoint 6400 by Extron, for transmission to Quantum Ultra processor via HDMI.
The video wall processor chassis is configured with six IN4HDMI input and three OUT4HDMI output cards.. Your HyperLane video bus 400 Gbps offers the real-time performance required for this project, and frame-locking outputs keep images in sync.
Other features for the selection of Quantum Ultra have been the embedded operating system, which is located on a write-protected solid-state storage drive, along with redundant and hot-swappable power supplies.
A single processor supports both video walls and provides the flexibility to operate separately or mirror the same content on both. If requirements changed or AV technology evolved, Quantum Ultra modularity and XTP array chassis provide the versatility needed to upgrade and expand DOSC video wall system.
Extron's local support has also played a determining role in the election of those responsible for ULA, since the engineers of this manufacturer have been, and they still are, available to quickly resolve any problem, “which is vital for this delicate and important installation”, they underline.
