Downstream standardizes Scalable Display technology for its AV projects
The association of Downstream y Scalable Display has materialized in a recent interactive project in the Boise State University (Idaho - EU), with the integration of eight projectors with eighteen glass panel systems, to create a 270º experience.
Reference in the development and management of digital environments and public spaces to promote the brand experience, Downstream has created a global community of content designers, developers, production directors and other creatives from their offices in the United States, Amsterdam (Netherlands) y Melbourne (Australia).
This is how his technical director explains it, Trent Hays: “Downstream has a unique position. We are a little different from a typical AV consultant because we create content, we build the story and provide custom software development; we put the content on the screen, which creates another level of complexity and we see the project through to the end, with design strategies, brand environments and immersive experiences for our customers”.
Precisely to respond to these projects with advanced technology, The company has partnered with Scalable Display, “with which we are in the middle of a few fascinating and unique projects in which its technology plays a fundamental role”, Hays adds..
Interactive project
Specifically, both companies have just completed an interactive project, and unconventional, in the Boise State University (Idaho - EU), in which ultra-short perforation lenses on glass were used, with a front projection film.
The projection was a small piece of a much more complex solution, for which Dowsnstream used the technological capacity of Scalable. “We integrated eight projectors with eighteen glass panel systems, which we custom design with one projection film and another capacitive touch film, to create a 270º experience, with extensive interactivity on all three walls. We automate much of the projection with Scalable to create a sustainable and interactive projection solution”.
A differential of Scalable technology is precisely its combination of higher pixel performance with a quick calibration and without problems. Innovative software automatically adjusts color, the intensity and geometry of images from various projectors, resulting in a single seamless digital display.
“Scalable's one-touch calibration allows us to automate the entire process -continues Hays-. We schedule calibration during downtime and eliminate the need for a human to operate and adjust the system, what was previously done manually, in an incredibly tedious and time-consuming process. If the projector needed maintenance, had to be recalibrated. “Scalable allows us to automate the steps and reduce the time to maintain a high-level system”.
Scalable's proprietary technology was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (WITH) by Rajeev Surati and. Tom Knight. The company has acquired twelve patents related to edge blending technology, warping and color calibration. “They have continued to create new functions and configuration options,” this professional emphasizes., and we appreciate and value your commitment to innovation. There is a lot of flexibility in their solutions, that complements what we have created in our software frameworks”.
Another benefit highlighted by Hays is that “Scalable provides us with quality service and technical support, especially when we install it on the ground. Your detailed knowledge of the technical challenges in the field of projection, in 3D rendering, advanced graphics, artificial vision, etc. has no parallel, not only about their solutions, but also about the requirements and capabilities of projects like ours. They are willing to go further”.
