Toshiba takes IBC 2023 a Petabyte-scale multimedia storage solution
The system that Toshiba Electronics Europe will be shown starting tomorrow at the Amsterdam event and consists of sixty units of its 20TB SAS HDD enterprise disk series, MG10SCA20TE, installed on the manufacturer's sixty-bay Vtrak J5960 JBOD Promise.
IBC 2023, of the 15 al 18 September in Amsterdam, has been the contest chosen by Toshiba Electronics Europe (in it pavilion 6 – estand 6.A27) to demonstrate to professionals the high capacity and performance of their hard drives (HDD) for multimedia applications, with a Petabyte-scale storage solution.
Specifically, The company will demonstrate a storage system for multimedia applications, Composed of sixty units of its business disc series SAS HDD MG10 of 20TB, whose gross storage capacity exceeds 1,2 Petabyte (1.200 TB), installed in the JBOD Vtrak J5960 sixty bay from the manufacturer Promise.
Host bus adapters are ESAH-12 SAS/SATA and network interface cards (NIC) FFRM-N4 de 100 Carry, both of ATTO Technology. The system also uses SSD software, based on JovianDSS ZFS of Open-E and the fourth generation PCIe server SB202-TU of AIC.
The sixty 20TB Toshiba MG10SCA SAS 3.5” HDD drives at the heart of the system belong to the fourth generation of the series of MG10 enterprise capacity hard drives of the company, composed of ten discs in a sealed helium-filled casing that, with conventional magnetic recording technology (CMR), increases density per disk up to 2TB.
All of these HDDs operate very efficiently in the Promise JBOD Vtrak J5960, connected to the master node control server using ATTO ESAH-12 SAS host bus adapters.
Besides, on the AIC SB202-TU master node server, Open-E's JovianDSS software implements a pool ZFS providing the application demo server with iSCI targets and shared folders over a 100GbE network, based on ATTO FFRM-N4 NIC cards.
With this type of solutions, “Toshiba responds to the continued increase in digital media storage requirements, due to the amount and resolution of stored media. Video and audio streams require large storage capacity at the lowest possible cost, maintaining a high reading and writing speed”.
A team of specialists from each of the companies will participate in the demonstration, at the Toshiba booth in the pavilion 6 the IBC (A27), while ATTO will provide support from its space in the pavilion 7 (A27).
