Tom Short, director of music programming and audiovisual integration for all RSG Group brands in North America, recognizes how important sound is to the concept of its gyms. “for us, music is essential for a great training experience. That's why we strive to create all musical programming in-house”.
The theme is inspired by the location and is developed individually. The incorporation of works by local artists reflects the dedication to supporting and showcasing the talent of the community. And the same goes for creating music playlists.. This mix adds an authentic and culturally enriching dimension to the club's design.. The absence of video screens reinforces the interest in creating a different social and physical exercise experience for its members.
Integration in Dallas
When RSG Group opened its second club in the North American city of Dallas, wanted a sound system that would give John Reed Fitness members the best music experience possible.
The key to achieving this objective was to analyze each space and classroom taking into account its purpose with respect to the desired sound pressure level., while ensuring evenly distributed audio coverage with high density and bass impact throughout the space.
The audio equipment not only had to offer the highest possible sound quality, but, for aesthetic reasons, It also had to be fully integrated into the overall aesthetic, blending in with the design concept in a discreet way.
RSG Group has been working with Bose Professional for decades throughout Europe and has maintained that relationship for its locations in the United States of America. in that country, the integrator of audiovisual solutions Paladin Technologies is responsible for shaping the design and implementation of the group's audio systems.
For the local John Reed Fitness in Dallas, decided to use the line altavoces EdgeMax from Bose Professional as a centerpiece. Although these are designed for ceiling installation in conference rooms, Paladin Technologies adapted them to mount on the club's industrial-style open ceilings.
Custom-made speaker enclosures EdgeMax EM180 y EM90 allowed them to be installed as hanging elements in all open ceiling areas. This design approach provided full control over the direction of the music while integrating into the overall aesthetic..
In addition to 80 altavoces EdgeMax, the complete Bose Professional solution also includes 34 speakers DesignMax DM6SE y 10 subwoofers MB210-WR. The entire system is powered by PowerMatch PM8500N amplifiers and controlled by a DSP ControlSpace EX-1280C.
The design of audio systems begins with the location plan of the sports equipment. Once it is decided that a machine will face a certain direction, The speakers are installed so that the person exercising receives the sound from the front.
“Music coming from behind can be annoying or disconcerting. As many unique aspects must be taken into account, we make sure that the speaker distribution is supervised by us”, explains Tom Breu of RSG Group.
Another example of creating the perfect soundscape is the functional training zone. Here, a series of design elements, such as large industrial fans and mannequins decorated with mirrors that create a disco ball effect, surround the space.
The entire area is oriented inwards, with EdgeMax speakers positioned along the perimeter to deliver maximum volume for Boost Club training, led by a DJ. Although the sound pressure level (SPL) in this area during these classes it is 10 dB higher than the rest of the gym, EdgeMax speakers ensure power is directed precisely where it's needed.
At John Reed Fitness clubs, one of the main challenges is having powerful bass. In the Dallas project, were added subwoofers MB210-WR strategically distributed throughout the space. EdgeMax speakers played a crucial role in delivering impactful bass response thanks to their expanded bandwidth and SPL capabilities.. And by combining them with the subwoofers, the sound experience that characterizes the group's gyms is achieved..
John Reed Fitness Dallas Location Offers an Experience Unlike Any Other Gym. As members move through the different rooms, Enjoy smooth sound with bass everywhere, regardless of ceiling height or room dimensions. Many rooms are 70 dB, allowing partners to chat comfortably while still feeling the music.
The speakers, both hanging and recessed in the ceiling, they go unnoticed and attention is focused on the works of art, design and a total fitness experience complete with high energy music.
