Quayola will enhance ISE 2025 with a mapping on the facade of Casa Batlló
In addition to offering a keynote lecture on WHEREAS 2025, Digital artist Quayola will create a unique mapping on the façade of this emblematic building, to which a special performance is added on the welcome screen of the South Access of Fira Barcelona Gran Via.
The Italian digital artist Quayola will present his keynote lecture in WHEREAS 2025, which is celebrated 4 al 7 February in Barcelona, the day 5 at 15:30h, in which he will offer attendees a vision of your innovative projects, including the hypnotizing mapping experience They will grow in Casa Batlló, which will take place on the days 1 y 2 February as part of the opening activities of the new edition of the contest.
Recognized for his pioneering fusion of art and technology, Quayola will also exhibit his work Promenade on tuesday 4 February, at 18:30, in the Fira Barcelona Gran Via welcome screen. This performance will give both the citizens of this city and ISE attendees another opportunity to admire the creative talent of the artist.
"In They will grow, I sought to identify, digitally catalog and reconstruct various tree species - explains Quayola -. I am interested in studying their growth systems and understanding how they respond to artificial stimuli.. The façade of Casa Batlló becomes the physical and digital space where these simulations come to life, using architectural elements as anchors to generate botanical geometries, lines and points that define the growth structure of plants”.
ISE collaborates once again with Casa Batlló to present an impressive mapping show on its emblematic façade. After the projections made by Refik Anadol in 2023 y Sofia Crespo in 2024 (more details in Digital AV), now he has invited a renowned artist to transform the exterior of Gaudi's building on a canvas for an exclusive work, inspired by the architect's creative vision, in its edition 2025 (Registration to attend the fair is open).
Quayola's work is a testament to the transformative power of audiovisual technology in art. His conference will explore the creative process behind the mapping of Casa Batlló, a project that perfectly combines artistic vision with cutting-edge technology to create an immersive experience.
“My presentation at ISE 2025 will explain the inspirations and methods that shaped They will grow -points out the Italian artist-. For me, the creation process is as significant as the final work, often documenting my artistic journey. I will analyze the crucial relationship between the physical and digital worlds in my art, sharing experiences from my unique expeditions to capture natural phenomena that inspire my digital creations”.
As this artist points out, “by showing examples of my works, both digital and physical, I want to illustrate the fluid transition between these two worlds. Besides, I will address my explorations in sculptures, robotics and other artistic projects, highlighting the importance of technology as a tool to expand creative expression.”
The Casa Batlló project and its performance on the welcome screen of the South Access of the fairgrounds are examples of how the AV technology can expand the boundaries of creative expression, offering audiences a unique and captivating visual journey.
Quayola's works have been presented in prestigious institutions around the world, like V&A Museum in London, Park Avenue Armory in New York, National Art Center in Tokyo, UCCA in Beijing, How Art Museum in Shanghai, SeMA in Seoul, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Ars Electronica and Linz, Sónar Festival in Barcelona and Sundance Film Festival. In 2013, the artist received the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica.
As pointed out Mike Blackman, general director of Integrated Systems Events, “We are delighted and proud to support Quayola, his art and the technological approach that he represents at the Casa Batlló event. His keynote will offer valuable insights into the creative process behind his spectacular digital works. Both performances will demonstrate the beauty of AV technology, connecting the city, its inhabitants and visitors with the magic of our AV community. It will be awesome, and I'm looking forward to seeing it.".
