Casa Batlló returns to 'Awakening the Dragon' with an interactive and telematic mapping
A massive telematic action is what was offered on the façade of Casa Batlló to celebrate the 10th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A 3D videomapping was organized in which the symbologies and interpretations that were a source of inspiration for Gaudí were revealed..
A videomapping of 30 minutes long was organized last 23 September, within the framework of the Mercé festival, in the Casa Batlló of Barcelona to celebrate its tenth anniversary as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. A show that was seen by more than 20.000 people with whose 3D projection they could interact through their smartphones.
On the façade of one of Antonio Gaudí's masterpieces, an audiovisual projection was carried out in which all the symbologies and interpretations that were a source of inspiration for the artist when creating this work of art were revealed.. This is why the allegories represented in this mapping were made under the title “Awakening the Dragon.”. An awakening that was carried out by those attending the event, before each pass, through the synchronization of your mobile phones. The objective was to achieve a massive and spectacular telematic action.
This spectacle of light and color was made by dividing the façade of the building into five spaces: the House of Yawns, where the windows of the gallery on the main floor looked like the throat of a gigantic animal; the House of Bones, area in which the stone columns of the tribune will become bones in reference to the victims devoured by the dragon; The Water House was located in the undulating areas to evoke Monet's water lilies, while the interior courtyards brought to life the work of Jules Verne, “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”.
The main area was the House of the Dragon where the legendary animal of Sant Jordi gave life to the legend. Finally, in the House of Masks, the balconies were turned into carnival masks made of a “broken” multicolored reminiscent of confetti.
As we already published in Digital AV Magazine, Three years ago, a mapping was projected on this façade to celebrate its 10 years of opening to the public..
On this occasion, the show, produced by the studio Nine Eyes, was developed under the title 'Awakening of Casa Batlló and in this 3D projection the dragon of Sant Jordi, carnival masks, the harlequins, mouths that yawn or sing, skeletons, Monet's water lilies, bats and other creatures of the night,…were the protagonists.
This year, The experience has been repeated but it has incorporated as a novelty the telematic participation of the attendees.
