Ubi turns any wall into a 3D screen thanks to Kinect
Ubi Interactive is a German startup that is working with Microsoft as part of the Kinect Accelerator Program (Kinect Accelerator Program) in developing a system that uses a projector in combination with a Kinect sensor to create a virtual touch screen that can become almost any surface.
The German company Ubi Interactive has created a new way of developing touch screens using the Kinect system created by Microsoft, which allows everything from surfing the Internet to the use of video games. Anup Chathotn, one of the founders of Ubi, has pointed out that “we can convert any surface into a 3D touch screen”.
The system uses a Microsoft Kinect sensor to turn a normal projector into a multi-touch PC projection system, donde powerpoints, web pages, Even games no longer require clicks or wireless mice to be navigated. Using the Kinect motion sensor and depth perception cameras, Ubi is able to detect when a user is pointing, swipe and touch a surface and interpret these gestures as if you were doing it on a giant touch screen or interactive whiteboard.
The company has given a demonstration in its Seattle offices, where he works together with Microsoft to perfect his creation, turning on a conventional projector on a frosted glass panel suspended in the center of the room, the one that was illuminated with dim light. A Kinect sensor was installed on the other side of the panel., which captures hand movements and gestures in front of the glass and sends the data to the UBI software, running on the same Windows PC that sends the live image to a projector.
“It's like all gesture-based Windows Touch”, Chathoth explained. “We wanted to start with an experience that everyone knows, but we can open our 3D gesture API, since you know exactly how far your fingertip is from the surface, when you actually touch it, what is a click. When you are not touching , It becomes a suspended movement.".
