The Las Rozas City Council seeks the convergence of its multimedia services with Cisco technology
Achieve convergence of voice services, data and video has been the objective of the project undertaken by the Las Rozas City Council, adopting Cisco technology, to renew your communications platform.
Las Rozas City Council has opted for Cisco technology to unify landline and mobile telephony, IP voice, Broadband Internet access and data transmission over an NGN IP Network (Next Generation Network), achieving convergence of multimedia services (voice, data and video) and improving the quality of services provided to citizens and accelerating the implementation of new ones.
Until the start of this project, los 29 municipal buildings of the city council had telephone systems from different manufacturers, as well as with disparate network accesses. The extension of the proprietary fiber optics to the rest of the non-connected headquarters and the integration on the same IP network will allow all communications and services to be unified, as well as secure access through VPN connections and expand WiFi coverage by up to a 40%.
In addition to network electronics based mainly on Cisco Catalyst switches, The City Council has adopted perimeter security and email and web protection solutions (Cisco ASA and Cisco IronPort), unified communications tools and clients (Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Jabber) y, soon, videoconference will be included (Cisco WebEx).
The new ICT management model also contemplates the virtualization and migration of the current applications hosted in the town hall's two data processing centers to a cloud environment of an operator., which is based on the Cisco UCS unified computing platform (Unified Computing System).
When the migration is complete, greater centralization will be achieved, availability, quality and safety of council services.
The IP network is also the basis for the municipality of Las Rozas to move towards an integrated smart city model., unifying and managing different intelligent services such as public lighting on the same control platform, irrigation and maintenance of parks and gardens, the energy management of municipal buildings or the monitoring of video surveillance cameras.
“The City Council is committed to adopting an optimal ICT management model, more efficient and sustainable and that guarantees us access to the latest technologies. Migration to a Next Generation Network and cloud outsourcing are the keys to this, allowing to improve services such as permanent contact with citizens through multimedia channels and speed up the adoption of new ones such as smart city services”, explains Enrique Arias, Director of Service of the Las Rozas City Council.
