Our Dynamic Earth museum trusts Electrosonic for AV solutions for Scotland’s Time Lords exhibition
Samsung screens, Optoma and Projectiondesign projectors, and control systems from AMX are some of the solutions that have been used to bring to life the new attraction at the Our Dynamic Earth museum in Edinburgh.
El Our Dynamic Earth es un original museo, located in Edinburgh next to the headquarters of the Scottish Parliament, which focuses its theme on the formation of the Earth. Transport your visitors through time to learn about the past, present and future of the planet, through different exhibitions that show processes such as the Big Bang, plate tectonics or glaciation.
Inaugurated in 1999, Electrosonic was the company responsible for providing the center with audiovisual systems and has now returned, hired by the person responsible for the new project, Studio MB, to provide the technology needed for the new Scotland’s Time Lords attraction.
‘Time Lords of Scotland’ takes visitors to meet the Scottish scientists who laid the foundations for the modern paradigm of plate tectonics, learning the impact that characters like James Hutton or Arthur Holmes have had on the evolution of the Earth.
The journey begins when the visitor passes through the doors and enters a 19th century classroom equipped with the most original technologies to meet the geologist and 'first lord of time'.’ James Hutton demonstrating his theories on how the Earth formed. Talking portraits and magical blackboards serve as a support to impart this knowledge.
Hutton appears to be in the room through an application based on the Pepper Ghost technique, an effect widely used in theaters, haunted houses, magic tricks and different attractions. This 'ghost illusion' is created on a horizontal format LCD screen Samsung of 63 inches that is flanked by chalkboard-style projection screens, whose contents are fed by projectors of Optoma.
The talking portraits, Designed with Samsung LCD screens 55 inches, come to life throughout the visit to show images of different geologists commenting on the importance of Hutton's ideas.
The room of geologist Arthur Holmes
The second section deals with the contributions of Arthur Holmes, professor of geology at the University of Edinburgh in 1942.
In this area, Visitors watch animations explaining plate tectonics and its importance to earthquake and volcano zones on a suspended globe.. The globe is a spherical screen that can display images visible from all directions, both horizontally and vertically (Puffersphere).
This spherical display is accompanied by an F32 projector from Projectiondesign (company belonging to the firm Barco), which is mounted on the ceiling and is equipped with a custom lens to display images on the inner surface of the sphere. In addition, A computer is also required from which the precise geometric corrections are made so that the images are displayed without distortions..
The Deep Time Machine comprises the third and final part of this new attraction at the Our Dynamic Earth museum. This room is designed like a large elevator, managed by a controller AMX, that transports you back in time to the Big Bang while displaying images on a Samsung LCD screen of 55 inches. An attraction that offers the opportunity to witness the development of the universe and the first days of Earth.
AV infrastructure
All these visual and projection solutions that have been installed in the Scotland's Time Lords exhibition are accompanied by an audio infrastructure composed of Tannoy speakers, amplifiers Cloud Electronics y RSF, as well as an AMX Precis signal processing system.
Most of the resources and control systems are housed in the AV racks located in the control center.. However, The HD media players used in the Deep Time Machine are located next to the screens to which they supply content.
The Scotland's Time Lords exhibition has been designed and managed by the Studio MB team with the collaboration of the firm Paragon Creative. The contents were conceived by Studio MB and produced by ISO Design.
