Barco projectors bring Paris digital art center L’Atelier des Lumières to life
The first exhibition held offers an immersive display composed of thousands of images of digitized works of art, projected on the floor, on the walls and ceiling that flow to the rhythm of the music. For its realization, they have been used 128 PGWU-62L laser projectors and 16 WUXGA F50 panoramic.
In the middle of the year, Paris inaugurated its first digital art center: The Workshop of Lights. This is located in an old foundry. 1835 Brings paintings by renowned artists to life with stunning surround sound and visual spectacle.
Behind this project is Culturespaces, company that has already organized similar immersive exhibitions in Carrières de Lumières, in the city of Les Baux-de-Provenc, where the former underground quarry has become one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Europe (more information at Digital AV Magazine). This same immersive, big-screen experience has been brought to the heart of Paris at L’Atelier des Lumières.. And in both cases Barco projectors have been used.
For Culturespaces, the exhibitions in Les Baux-de-Provence and Paris are like a dream come true. “My goal was to completely immerse visitors in pixels and sound and create a unique sensory experience, to bring the work closer to people. The Paris audience is more critical so we decided to add some extras. Make images move here and there, play with mirrors and project on cylindrical surfaces and water. Image quality was key, however, Challenges abounded with walls of 10 meters high and a not very large space where the public is closer to the work of art and can see everything in more detail”, explains its CEO Bruno Monnier.
For the Paris digital art center project, Culturespaces has had the help of the integrator Cadmos who was in charge of installing the technology Barco to represent paintings by Gustav Klimt and other authors in a space of 3.300 square meters for projection on walls, ceilings and floor. In total, they have been used 128 PGWU-62L laser projectors and 16 WUXGA F50 short lens panoramic cameras.
“Laser projectors project sharp images with high contrast, thus representing the images in the most realistic way possible”, comments Bruno Monnier.
Gustav Klimt
For the inauguration of the center, an exhibition was presented that offers an immersive digital experience around the work of Gustav Klimt, a show, which remains active until the month of November, and that fuses monumental projection with music to immerse the visitor in the work of the Austrian painter.
The immersive exhibition is made up of thousands of images of digitized works of art, projected on the floor, on the walls as well as on the ceiling and other typical elements of the place. These flow to the rhythm of the music and appear molded for the architecture of the Atelier.. A unique sensory experience that immerses the visitor in the world of Gustav Klimt.
In order to offer a projection of 300 million pixels, Culturespaces and Cadmos, the project integrator, They opted for Modulo Pi systems from the study phase of the project.
In the sample they used 35 Kinetic Module units Early-Thold, responsible for helping manage overlaps and soft edges, in addition to facilitating deformation with Xmap mode. The result was a projection without interruptions on the entire surface of the show.
Modulo Kinetic was also used as a show controller to manage and sequence all the media that is part of the show.: videos, music, images…
