ASEAN counted on Bosch for the development of the summit of political leaders in Singapore
To respond to the requirements of the different meeting rooms, 31 Dicentis discussion units with touch screen, 36 wireless discussion devices and 33 DCN conference units with language selector.
The 33rd Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) brought together world leaders in Singapore to discuss economic and political issues in the region. Chaired by the country's prime minister, Lee Hsien Loong, It was held at the Suntec Convention Center and was attended by representatives from China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Canada, Australia, Philippines and United States, inter alia.
Simultaneous interpretation in 12 languages for 1.300 attendees was key to the success of this five-day event. A project that posed different challenges. The multifunctional convention center did not provide permanent interpreter booths or wiring for interpretation hardware. Besides, were held near 20 meetings between world leaders in different meeting rooms, each requiring its own interpretation settings. Y, finally, the temporary interpretation solution had to be ready in the three days before the summit.
Congress Rental Singapore, CNR member (Congress Rental Network) and official conference partner of Bosch Building Technologies, designed and installed the temporary configuration of the Asean Summit using a combination of Dicentis solutions, Cordless Dicentis and Bosch DCN.
To meet the requirements of each of the four different meeting rooms, The experts implemented a total of 31 Dicentis discussion units with touch screen, 36 Dicentis wireless discussion devices with touch screen and 33 DCN conference units with language selector. In 56 interpreter desks DCN offered a familiar technological platform for interpreters provided by the government institution.
This configuration allowed Congress Rental technicians to equip each meeting between world leaders as needed in each situation.. For example, Higher-level meetings held in the two plenary meeting rooms on the fourth floor of the venue could be supported by Dicentis discussion units or Dicentis wireless discussion devices., depending on the day of the conference and how much transition time they had available to change the settings for the next meeting.
For faster setup and dismantling, the best option turned out to be the Dicentis wireless units, combined with pocket receivers Integrus and headphones preset in the listener's preferred language.
Several meetings were held simultaneously during the event, so Congress Rental decided to centralize its simultaneous interpretation capabilities. They were configured 28 temporary cabins, each of them equipped with two DCN interpreter desks, at a central point. Thence, interpreters translated live for delegates in the plenary meeting rooms and summit attendees in the listening room on the third floor.
In the listening room, where attendees could follow the session in any of the 12 languages used at the event, there was more than 1.300 Integrus pocket receivers available.
At the same time, Automatic camera control monitored interactions between world leaders in plenary meeting rooms, that attendees could see live on the television screens installed on the third floor.
During the five days of the ASEAN summit, Congress Rental Singapore kept several technicians on site to ensure system operation and deliver conferencing devices to participants several times a day. Through user control software on the back-end, Bosch digital system provided Congress Rental Singapore with valuable data on microphone usage and interpreter performance, in addition to giving them the opportunity to address potential problems in real time, which was highly valued by the summit managers.
