The Covid-19 pandemic in Spain has extended to the celebration of music festivals, as has happened with the postponement of the calls planned for some events in Madrid and Barcelona to next year.

Difficult decisions for organizers of large music festivals in Spain, after many uncertainties and search for solutions, with the common denominator of concern and sadness in the communications they have sent and in the public.

After the decision of those responsible for the Barcelona event Primavera Sound to postpone first to next August and, recently, cancel editing 2020 and finally postpone it from 2 al 6 June 2021, have followed those of Sónar Barcelona y Sonar+D, and that of the Madrid event Mad Cool announced yesterday.

The most real and feasible thing is to postpone the festival to 2021”, states the statement.

In similar terms, The organizers of Sónar announced just a few days ago that “due to the global crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the editions 2020 Sónar Barcelona and Sónar+D will not be able to take place, so they are postponed to 2021. This decision has been the only one possible to fully guarantee the health and safety of all attendees., artists and teams involved”.

Despite these changes, from all the festivals they assure that they are already working with the artists, speakers and participants to reschedule in 2021 most of the actions and activities that had been planned for this year, in addition to thanking users for their patience and understanding during this period and seeking measures to refund tickets or reserve them for the next edition..

Sonar+D CCCB

One of the activities that will take place this year is an extraordinary edition of Sónar+D, that will take place in the next 18 y 19 September at the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), the space where it was created, with the name of Sónar+D CCCB.

This extraordinary edition will have a format and content designed specifically for the current context “and with an eye toward new imaginable futures at the intersection of culture.”, art and technology. The project was born with the aim of bringing together and addressing the needs and concerns of creative communities., both local and international”.

Sónar+D CCCB will be a fundamentally online event, free and open to everyone who could welcome the public in person depending on the evolution of capacity regulations. It will have an extensive program of participatory and network activities (conferences, demos, workshops, master classes, etc).
