Cylinder is a space, with tailored content, Created for use in presentations, training and entertainment applications. It is equipped with five Optoma 1080GTDarbee projectors, four Yamaha speakers and a subwoofer, as well as the Anystation Media and Pixera tools.

Since its beginnings, 13-2 Studio has focused its activity on providing innovative solutions that have led it to create Cilindro (Cylinder), a fully portable temporary space that can host bespoke content and be used for presentations, training, entertainment and many other applications.

“When we create this Cylinder, we had a goal in mind: putting the human being at the center of virtual reality technology. We realized that there was a lot of 3D and immersive content on the market, but when you wear a VR headset, you are alone. We wanted to create a new type of immersive space”, comment by Amaury Chevrier, owner of 13-2 Studio.

After months of research, tests and prototypes, 13-2 Studio decided to create what has been announced as the first shared virtual reality experience in France, Cylinder. Finished (which is made of aluminum and internally wrapped with projection material) requires 6×6 meters of soil surface and 2,95 meters high to be assembled. It is equipped with five projectors Optoma 1080GTDarbee, four speakers Yamaha and a subwoofer.

In addition to being compact, The Cylinder can be built, calibrated and ready to operate in five hours, It can even be divided into two if the situation requires it. One of the key reasons for its ease and speed of deployment is the power of the patented calibration software. Vioso, Anyblend, which comes pre-installed on your Anystation Media server.

The content of a potential client, which is also custom created by 13-2 Studio, can be transmitted or powered by an external computer, and ultra-high resolution playback is achieved thanks to the Vioso Anystation Media server and the Pixera content player. According to 13-2 Studio, This setup is rock solid and offers multiple input and output options.

“With a regular dome, although it is very complex, it is easier to handle the content because it is essentially a distorted square. The cylinder, on the other hand, It has very specific challenges because you are working on 360° content, where something in the degree 'zero’ it is essentially playing in the '360' degree. Requires complex image processing and handling, as well as a precise superposition”, aclara Chevrier.

Etienne Servant, commercial director of Vioso France, explains the reasons why cylindrical content is one of the most complex ways to calibrate. “Short-range projectors are used in the Cylinder, which show an image that is rounded at the bottom on a surface that is also curved, creating a double warp layer”.

Calibration cameras will ignore some content because it is simply too complex to analyze, and this is where Core, Vioso's calibration tool intervenes using extrapolation to recreate missing content, and help the camera 'make sense' and project the correct content.

The combination of Vioso software and automatic camera calibration simplifies an otherwise complex process and makes it fast. And according to Servant, It would not be possible to manage such complex content without the Vioso suite.

“They learned to handle the 180/270/360° calibration and create a Wings or Pixera show in record time. Our technology is a fast and flexible solution that you use for your events. They are already pushing the limits and working on highly complex dome and immersion projects, which in turn leads us to develop more features in our calibration tools”, concludes Servant.
