On Projeções provides AV infrastructure to the Portuguese Pavilion at the Expo 2025 Osaka
With a surface of 1.836 m2, The pavilion has a complete AV infrastructure that has been taken care of On Projections and includes projections, architectural and stage lighting, multichannel sound, Led installations, touch screens and centralized control automation.
On Projections, international provider of audiovisual solutions with operational headquarters in Brazil and Portugal, has been the company responsible for the audiovisual integration and daily operations of the Portugal Pavilion in the Expo 2025 Osaka, a cultural and technological space that has received more than 500.000 visitors so far.
Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the pavilion develops the theme 'The Ocean: The Blue Dialogue' through immersive narratives, interactive installations and large format projections.
Hired by Rimond SRL, company generally responsible for the project, On Projeções has been in charge of all AV infrastructure of the pavilion, from equipment acquisition and system design to installation, integration and continuous operation. His work has covered projection systems (on walls, floors, interactive surfaces and a custom minidome), architectural and stage lighting, multichannel sound, Led installations, touch screens and centralized control automation.
As the pavilion is entirely based on audiovisual content, Seamless integration and reliability of these systems are essential. A team of eight professionals from On Projeções has worked on site in Osaka, collaborating closely with Japanese teams and Portuguese partners to meet deadlines and overcome technical challenges. The conceptual development and exhibition design have been the responsibility of Muse -Museums & Expos, company specialized in cultural and museographic projects.
An immersive tour
With a surface of 1.836 square meters, the pavilion combines outdoor architecture with a meticulously designed interior tour, where audiovisual technology acts as an invisible guide, modeling atmospheres, rhythm, interaction and emotion.
From the outside to the last immersive room, the visitor's journey is a fluid journey through history, the culture, sustainability and maritime exploration.
The experience begins in the waiting area, where a multichannel soundscape, created by the composer Diogo Alvim, surrounds the visitor with sounds of wind and waves. This ambient audio, delivered through discreet weather-resistant speakers, marks the first act of a journey in which AV infrastructure becomes narrative.
Next, the room 1 It is presented as a dark environment articulated around five 'islands' that explore, through projections, sound and lighting, topics such as maritime heritage, biodiversity, the language and cultural links between Portugal and Japan.
One of the highlights is the Minidomo, with a hemispherical surface where navigation maps and animated cartography are projected.
To achieve, On Projeções commissioned a fisheye lens custom that allows a single projector Epson EB-L730U cover the entire surface without visible distortion. This solution eliminated the need for multiple teams, achieving a continuous and realistic projection that reinforces the Portuguese maritime legacy.
Other islands include interactive multi-touch screens 86 inches (Sharp PN-LA862) with content on marine biodiversity and technology; monitors I'm not arranged like Japanese screens; and an audiovisual installation that explores the linguistic similarities between Portuguese and Japanese, with words synchronized with LEDs and directional sound. The system also includes players Brightsign XD4 for synchronized video playback.
Cinco laser projectors Optoma ZK708T 4K DLP They offer environmental projections in the room 1. This area is cohesive by means of an LED tape integrated into the islands and a system of surround sound with speakers Audac and luminaires Prolights. The technical rack includes GrandMA3 lighting controllers of MA Lighting and servers Dataton Watchout 6 as the basis of the control system.
The experience culminates in the room 2, the immersive climax of the pavilion. Here, 16 laser projectors Barco G62-W9, controlled by 3D modeled contents a watchout, generate an animated underwater environment on curved walls and floor.
With surround sound and kinetic light, This room invites you to sit on the floor and let yourself be carried away by a sensory narrative about sustainability and the future.. Many visitors repeat the experience. in this space, AV technology guides and narrates fluidly, integrating visual stimuli, auditory and spatial.
Beyond the exhibition
In addition to the exhibition tour, On Projeções has also equipped the restaurant, the terrace, the store and a multipurpose room with ambient sound and AV solutions adaptable for concerts, projections, diplomatic receptions and cultural events.
The multipurpose room has two Boat projectors, microphone systems Shure, PTZ cameras Panasonic, streaming equipment, simultaneous interpretation systems, speakers Bose L1 Pro 16, mixing tables Roland V-60 y Behringer X32, and computers with software Resolume y Vmix.
Sustainability was a guiding principle in the design of the AV system. All lighting systems use high efficiency LED technology, and the projections are made with laser technology, Lower energy consumption than conventional lamps.
Low-consumption and long-life equipment was chosen, such as Barco and Epson projectors and Audac amplifiers., and mounting systems were designed to be reusable. Japanese recycling protocols for packaging and installation were also followed..
From the technical challenge to the project's legacy
Throughout the project, On Projeções took on challenges that went beyond AV, from structural and scenographic adjustments to logistical delays and trilingual coordination. The team remained on site for final commissioning and continues to be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of all systems..
The AV system of the Portugal Pavilion is not a complement, It is the central axis of the experience. Technology intuitively guides the visitor's journey, transforming space into a continuous sensory narrative.
“This project was not just a technical challenge, but a key moment for us as a company”, states Hugo Rodrigues, CEO of On Projections. “It demonstrated our ability to deliver complex and customized AV solutions in international contexts.”, working with foreign teams under demanding operational and cultural standards”.
Since its opening, The pavilion has been visited by more than 500.000 people and has been widely praised for its immersive design and sensory storytelling.
