The German company Osram, belonging to the Siemens group, has installed 800 SubstiTUBE LED tube units on the platform covers of the Bamberg railway station (Germany), that provide notable energy savings.

Osram, subsidiary of the Siemens group, has illuminated the German station of Bamberg, following the renovation undertaken by the railway company DB AG, in what constitutes the largest project carried out, to date, with SubstiTUBE LED tubes. 800 SubstiTUBE LED units have been installed on the platform decks, allowing the railway company an annual saving of 69.000 KWh.

SubstiTUBE LED tubes offer an alternative replacement for the classic T8 fluorescent lamps - a mainstay of general lighting systems for years- and provide energy savings of up to 60% in luminaires with electromagnetic ballast. SubstiTUBE ST8-SD4 and SubstiTUBE Advanced LED tubes have been used to illuminate the train timetable information panels.

The fact that lighting technology has changed at Bamberg station, orienting it towards new LED light sources, It has been a great advance in reducing energy costs and optimizing maintenance cycles.. The experience is proving so satisfactory that plans are already being drawn up to equip seven more stations.: Munich, Leipzig and Frankfurt, between them.
