A video wall of 72 screens informing about the status of flights at Munich airport
A video wall of 18×4, configured with NEC X463UN displays and Matrox M-Series graphics cards, allows Munich Airport to offer clear and up-to-date information on the situation and flight schedules.
Munich Airport is using M-Series cards from Matrox to power the display system, composed of 72 monitors NEC Display, that has just been installed to inform travelers about flight schedules and status.
From the installation of this large 19" video wall×2,30 meters has been commissioned by the integrator InoNet. “The goal was to ensure that razor-sharp content could be displayed across the entire video wall., taking into account that the information is supplied individually to each monitor with Full HD resolution”, explains Susanne Gomez, Key Account Manager Digital Signage en InoNet.
About 39 million passengers a year. The flight information display system (FIDS – Flight Information Display System) analogue had been in operation since it was inaugurated in 1992, with representations of arrivals and departures in multiple small LEDs.
This solution was beginning to become obsolete and required a high level of IT maintenance to ensure its operation.. This is why it was decided to look for a solution to replace it that would not require much maintenance and would allow a quick and real-time update..
To deliver content on a video wall with these characteristics, a high-quality graphics engine was required and InoNet opted for Matrox M-Series cards since they can support up to eight screens with a resolution of 2560×1600 each of them.
The combination of the M9148 and M9188 within a Magnius-2 video wall controller system allows powering this visual solution composed of 72 screens NEC X463N, each display providing a resolution of 1920×1080.
These displays offer a narrow bezel of 5,7 mm with a viewing angle of 178º which allows the 72 panels are completely visible from any front position. Besides, have been configured with a fail-safe feature to ensure continued operation.
After this project, Munich Airport is home to one of the world's largest flight information display systems in an 18-inch configuration.×4, composed of 72 monitors, which has dimensions of 19x 2,30 metros. The old analog system has been replaced by a digital FIDS in which Full HD content powered by Matrox M-Series graphics cards is displayed, which allows flight information to be offered in a clear and attractive way.
