Nausicaá creates an immersion room based on Modulo PI multimedia servers
The largest public aquarium in Europe, located in France, In this space, it has twenty-two video projectors and five Modulo Player multimedia servers..
Located in Boulogne-sur-Mer (France), he Nausicaá National Sea Center offers its visitors an attractive tour of the marine landscape from 1991. As part of its expansion, Europe's largest public aquarium now offers a new immersion space to raise public awareness about the effects of global warming.
In its activity as an aquarium and as a marine science center, Nausicaá has received more than fifteen million visitors since its creation in 1991. As part of its expansion, A new space has been designed to project visitors In the eye of the weather (Into the eye of climate), a 360° immersive experience aimed at raising awareness about global warming and its problems.
To carry out this project, the National Sea Center of Boulogne-sur-Mer selected the agency Pixel n’Pepper, who made this film entirely in 3D, that comes to life in this space, equipped with twenty-two video projectors and five Modulo Player multimedia servers Former PI.
The agency supervised the technical and economic feasibility study, Pixel n'Pepper was entrusted with the artistic and technical development of the first immersion room dedicated to climate change and its problems. In a square room of 11x11m, walls and floor are used to create an immersive experience with great impact on visitors.
This is what Gaël Picquet points out, Pixel n'Pepper technical director: “as visitors are close to the walls, We first had to determine the height of the image based on the distance of the audience and their field of view. With this data, the image height was set to 7m”.
How the audience is close to the projected image, “We also needed to have high definition and, therefore, a pixel as small as possible -specify-. We opted for a pixel size of 3 mm on both walls and floor, and with the minimum desired brightness, which was from 250 lux, to work with precision in contrasts and colors”.
In this space, a total of twenty-two Epson EB-L1075U devices have been installed to project on the floor and the four walls of the room.. 360° mapping video is based on Modulo PI's Modulo Player media server solution, with four units of Modulo Player PRO-4 and one of Modulo Player PRO-6.
To offer a complete immersion experience, another fundamental element has been the audio., for which a multichannel system with eight ID 24i speakers has been installed, four ID 110 substances NXAMP 4×4 nexo amplifiers, according to the audiovisual integration project carried out by Video.
Audio and video playback is ensured by Modulo Player, who is also in charge of controlling the show. “A video and audio player that integrates all the show control functionalities necessary for this type of permanent installation is essential for both technical and budgetary reasons”, Picquet assures.
With the interface design included in Modulo Player, personalized panels were created for Nausicaá's operation and maintenance teams., what, as Picquet emphasizes, “They have been of great value for all operational aspects”.
From the 25 July 2020, Visitors to Nausicaá can enter this immersive room and live a unique experience to learn in detail about climate change and its devastating effects..
The 3D movie In the eye of the weather is directed by Nathanaëlle Picot and her Pixel n'Pepper team. “Immersion rooms are flourishing in the museography sector,” adds Picquet.. The real interest is and will continue to be the quality of the content””.
Through this realistic and surprising immersive experience, Nausicaá hopes to move the audience and raise awareness about the solutions and best practices to stop global warming..
