Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital upgrades donor wall with Planar
For the renovation of this large format video wall, a LED solution has been used. Planar of 18×5 metros, which has a pixel separation of 1,5 mm ( MGP1.5).
In 2016, the design and integration firm Envision installed a large wall of donors, built with LCD screens, in the main floor lobby of the Hospital Mount Sinai from toronto (Canada). Then, that videowall represented the largest and most complex donor wall in North America, according to Envision CEO, Mark Wilson. However, This has become obsolete and they have decided to update it with the technology of Planar.
“We had a growing need in hospitals for large-scale recognition of major gifts and Mount Sinai was the first to do that project”, explains Wilson. “They wanted to make a big, bold statement to the public and stakeholders to convey how important the culture of philanthropy was to them.”.
When the original donor wall was reaching the end of its useful life, hospital turned to Envision again for redesign.
“The original installation was done in a way to allow the screens to be updated at a future date, which meant we could keep most of the infrastructure and replace the technology inside”, Wilson comments.. “The client wanted a specific look, as well as detailed control of the content management system. “That really drove the technology decisions.”.
Located in a narrow lobby hallway, the donor wall had always presented challenges from the perspective of viewing angles.
“One of our goals was to improve the appearance of the canvas and reduce the repair surface area of the exhibit, which is susceptible to damage from the large amount of foot traffic through the hallway. When switching to a Led product, we wanted to specify something where the cabinets, modules or tiles could be easily replaced if necessary”, clarify Chris Murdy, director of Envision Digital and Innovation.
After careful evaluation of suppliers, Envision recommended a Planar LED solution which ultimately led to the installation of an 18" video wall.×5 metros, with a pixel pitch of 1,5 mm ( MGP1.5).
Like a great modernization, Murdy said the renovated donor wall was very complex from the perspective of converting a new product into an existing design..
“There was also a high expectation regarding reliability, which required a lot of thought and planning to provide redundancy with power, data and multimedia playback. We worked with Planar engineers to specify the correct Led drivers and ensure we had no discrepancies with the video distribution”.
Murdy adds that the project also had the need to provide the hospital with a much more dynamic tool, allowing them to easily modify the canvas or reformat the content. “This was a complete, ground-up reinvention of the experience. It was important to establish the future value of this opportunity with the client and ensure they did not feel limited by the technology.. Planar was a key partner in this regard”.
“The animations are clean, the colors much brighter and visually, The scale of the video wall is really striking”, Vince Rozas, Design and Production Director, Sinai Health Foundation.
“Like so many examples of great design, the new donor wall blends very well with the surroundings”, Mark Wilson, CEO of Envision.
Vince Rozas, design and production director of Sinai Health Foundation, said that the new Planar LED video wall, with its multifaceted use and vibrant clarity, and new content designed by Envision, has completely revamped the way the hospital recognizes its many generous donors. “Before we had limitations because the visualization was not perfect”, Rozas explained.. “They were smaller fonts, inconsistent colors and things that could easily get lost in the seams”.
A plug and play solution
with the new videowall Led Planar MGP Series, Rozas and his team have more opportunities to emphasize the contributions donors have made. “The sky really is the limit as to what we can show. For example, if we want to welcome a donor or draw attention to an important donation announcement, we can highlight those that occupy the entire wall. We can also divide it into several sections”.
Although the main function is the recognition of donors, The hospital can also use the video wall for other purposes, like events, communications, large fundraising or brand marketing initiatives
“Like so many examples of great design, the new donor wall blends very well with the surroundings. It is integrated in an aesthetically pleasing way: the video wall is large scale, but it doesn't look too big. The way the Led has transformed the experience is incredible and, the most important thing, provides an impressive canvas for the foundation to recognize its donors.”, finishes Mark Wilson.
Planar MGP
Planar MGP Series Led Video Walls Provide Organizations with Fine, Smooth Pixel Separation, and a high-resolution display at a similar value to tiled LCD video wall options.
With cabinets that present an aspect ratio 16:9, Each pixel pitch of the MGP series can achieve a wide variety of resolutions, including Full HD and 4K.
Screens can be configured to form different shaped video walls for a wider range of applications, and the cabinets 27 inches feature front installation and ease of service, allowing them to be mounted directly on walls.
