Jersey Opera House with Digico

The Jersey Opera House (JOH), con 125 years of history in the Channel Islands, reopens its doors and incorporates a Quantum 338T console from Digico, supplied by Stage Electrics, which joins the existing Digico SD9 and ensures the future acquisition of a Quantum 112.

The technical director, Chris Wink, explains how a generous donation from a benefactor facilitated the purchase of new equipment. “We were fortunate to benefit from enormous generosity, so now we have a fantastic Quantum 338T and we are developing a speaker system d&b latest generation”, points out. “The Quantum 338T will position us perfectly as we begin to produce more of our own shows and fits perfectly with the caliber of artists visiting the JOH.. We are investing heavily in equipment and personnel since our construction project ended. Many of the shows that visit us already use Digico, so the Q338T helps us with our workflow, making configurations much easier”.

Jersey Opera House In a five-year construction project, government funded, The entire JOH structure has been renovated and repaired. The latest improvements focused on the theatrical equipment, including complete lighting and sound systems. The Quantum 338T was chosen thanks to its trio of 17 inches of high gloss and the wide surface of the console. Con 156 input channels, 72 buses and a matrix of 36 x 36, The Quantum 338T is designed for complex shows and is exactly what the JOH needs.

“The Opera was inaugurated in 1900 as a replacement for the Theater Royal”, Wink continues.. “Over the years it has undergone numerous renovations., but in 1997 it was returned to its original form, and we have updated and preserved that work. It is a beautiful historical building, but we look to the future with the staging of modern works, including an opera, a brand new pantomime and dance show. The Quantum 338T is proving to be essential due to our varied workflow and how quickly we change shows”.

Agility and versatility

The software Digico T improvement in quantum 338 Standard with a variety of added features, which includes the increase in the matrix of 24 a 36 with individual nodal delays and aliases on each channel. When combined with SD cards 32 ultra-flexible bits and an Optocore buckle, Wink gains a level of agility that has allowed him and his team to deliver crystal-clear sound, regardless of the genre of the show. As he continues to explain, It is the ability to adapt racks to what is needed that makes the Digico ecosystem so attractive.

“The fact that SD-Racks can be what you need, where you need it, via hot swappable cards, it is essential”, continue. “We also use Orange Boxes within the system, which adds even more flexibility, certainly for Dante inputs and outputs, and for personal monitoring requirements. Due to the unique nature of our room, We often end up also making multitrack recordings. Regarding the software, We have really noticed the impact that Mustard and Chilli processing has; It was perceived as a big change compared to our SD9″.

With a varied repertoire, It is often the shows that need more subtle reinforcement that require the most attention. For your next project, Wink focuses on subtle reinforcement, where the clarity of the combination of Digico and d&b will subtly incorporate sound effects and musical elements in a way that could not be achieved with a different combination of equipment.

“The quality of the preamplifiers on the cards 32 bits offers a level of finesse not found in other brands», Wink concludes.. «It is about having a system powerful and forceful enough to face any rock or pop artist who presents itself, but also quiet and clean enough to handle the subtle reinforcements of a spoken word play or opera. There are times when a mallet is needed and there are times when just a small file is needed, and the Digico Quantum 338T does it all!”, concludes Chris Wink.
