Dirty Monitor creates an immersive art gallery with the work of Claude Monet
In this temporary exhibition, located in the Centro Xiqu de Hong Kong, Dirty Monitor shows two hundred works by the painter, that are digitally mixed on a large 360º canvas thanks to the projection of Panasonic and lighting effects Robe.
The work and creativity of the impressionist painter Claude Monet attracts all those who want to know its artistic legacy with a radical new gallery concept, displayed in a special temporary headquarters created in the Centro Xiqu de Hong Kong, in West Kowloon district.
This installation has been carried out between the international mapping studio, immersive experience and digital art Dirty Monitor, and experiential technology company ChillHoYeah, exhibition organizer On a journey with Claude Monet, that since the end of last October and until the 15 January 2023 will be at the Xiqu Center.
This is the first large-scale project that D-Mines, Dirty Monitor's new creative content production management division, directed by Benjamin Bauwens, carried out since it began its activity in this market.
“This is an exciting project that will revolutionize the way we appreciate art,” says Bauwens., not only for traditional art lovers, but for a new audience, different and diverse, who doesn't necessarily think about visiting a traditional art gallery”.
The exhibition shows two hundred works painter's masters in their different stages, with ephemeral and multi-layered elements, that are digitally mixed into a large 360º digital canvas in a projected spectacle that lasts 36 minutes, which is accompanied by a soundtrack for the exhibition commissioned by Dirty Monitor and composed, produced and performed by Echo Collective.
The narration of the show is guided by a voice-over which follows the clues and thoughts of Monet's letters and an interview he did while traveling, revealing the inspirations gleaned from his travels, mood, feelings and emotions of your daily life.
The public is placed in the center of the gallery space and absorbs the moods, sound and visual, and snapshots of the environment “that can trigger any number of slightly abstract moments but related to Monet's life”.
This is how the creative director of Dirty Monitor explains it for this exhibition, Audrey Ballez: “Monet's life was full of ups and downs, with a search for identity and a need for recognition of their art, but also with marriage, the birth, death and remarriage… So his life is a mine of interesting material to explore and to put emotion into this immersive show.".
To achieve this, a screen, of 5,7 meters high and 94 about the length, in rectangular format. The screen material is a PVC especial SB Blackout which was obtained after many investigations and tests by the tissue specialist Showtex.
The projections are made with fourteen Panasonic PT-RCQ10 projectors, each one with 10.000 lumens, mounted on a truss central on the roof of the enclosure and that admit the entry of 4K signals uncompressed via HDMI or Digital Link terminals, speeding up 4K playback and eliminating the need to re-encode.
However, the real magic is in the content displayed, for which the creative team carried out an analysis of his extensive work as if it were a trip, hence the title of the exhibition. Technically, The objective has been to create a immersive cartographic show that delicately fuses the paintings into a single landscape that could be discovered if you were next to Claude Monet.
Six additional video projectors and effects effects are used for supporting gallery projections. ProMotion digital moving head of Robe, which is a novelty for an immersive installation like the one carried out in this case with Monet.
ProMotion's internal media server is used to store and play this custom material. This is complete with a surround audio 7.1, installed by local company Shalom AV Technology.
Hong Kong is the world premiere of this innovative exhibition. when it ends, the next 15 January, Voyage with Claude Monet will move first to other destinations in Southeast Asia, and then to the United States and Europe.
